This is the first time I’ve written something like this, but I’m having a very hard time deciding this year what kind of car I should buy come next month.
I’m trading in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition for…
I don’t know!
My first thought is my long-term obsession with the Jeep Wrangler. Ever since going through the Colorado mountains in my late Grandfather’s CJ-5 I have wanted one. Something about the open-aired driving and freezing my butt off while climbing up mountains was a lot of fun….and it still would be fun for me to do. Unfortunatley I am no longer 7 years old anymore, and I have a dog the size of a horse.
So I guess I could buy one of these if it was out this year, but I don’t know how practical it would be… Then again if money and ‘being practical’ was no object, I would probably be purchasing a Viper.
Which leaves a couple of vehicles on my list. One of them being the Dodge Caliber:
Unfortunatley I’m not too sure about the styling on this vehicle. I first saw it on the road and it’s starting to look a bit generic/stationwagonlike. And well I know Station Wagons are cool now…wait excuse me “Cross-Over” vehicles, I would rather have a Jeep Compass or *gasp* a Subaru WRX. Sorry to mention another car company but I should consider them too and not be so Biased towards DCX cars… Even though I’ve owned one is some form or another for the past 10-15 years.
So that leaves me waiting for more vehicles… Maybe until NAIAS 2007? So I can see vehicles like the Patriot, maybe a Diesel vehicle? GOD PLEASE DCX RELEASE MORE DIESELS. I don’t give a crap about EPA rules…most of them are just made up by politicians to sell more GAS. Ok, I’ll get off the soapbox.
So that pretty much leaves these two vehicles…The Patriot…or the Compass Ralley Edition(probably only sold in the European markets…but maybe I can get a hold of some parts from my friendly Jeep Dealer). If you do end up there ask for Larry C. He will give you a good deal.
Or I guess I could just get a big…TRUCK!
Please help me make up my mind.

Looking at your choices I would look at either the Compass or Patriot when it comes out. The Patriot looks like it could fit the bill especially if you get the freedom drive or whatever that 4×4 system is. Of course it won’t be a wrangler offroad, but it will get you out of snow perhaps. If you really want to have fun, I would go with the Viper or perhaps a Charger with the Hemi!
